Meet Frank
Welcome and thank you for visiting my website!!
I started working with wood about 40 years ago when I was in the 6th grade after receiving a Christmas gift from my parents which was a "Mattel Powershop". Although it was considered a "toy"; it included a saw, a lathe, and a sander which would actually cut, lathe and sand soft wood such as balsa wood.
When I was a freshman in high school, I started working during the summer months with two of my uncles in their home construction business. Although I went to the University of Wyoming and earned a degree in the field of teaching, I returned to the construction field and began specializing in interior finish work; which included stairways, interior doors and windows, baseboard, crown moldings, etc. In the mid 1980's I started my own construction business and have stayed busy doing all aspects of home construction and remodeling in Spokane, Washington; all the while continuing with my real passion: interior finish work. Good finish work involves an artistic and patient attention to detail; and my craftsmanship led me to the art of pen turning.
After taking a pen-turning class at "Woodcraft", I began spending my "leisure" time turning wood pens on a lathe. I recently purchased some pen blanks that were not wood and also began making pens out of man-made materials. Although I prefer to turn pens from wood, I also have used acrylic (which is a plastic material), and Corian, (which is the material used on counter-tops). These pen blanks can create some very interesting and unique patterns and designs for "one-of-a kind" pen. Teenagers and young college students are especially intrigued by my man-made pens due to the youthful, modernistic designs.
Whether a pen is constructed from wood or a man-made product, they are created one-at-a time to ensure a professional quality second to none. All wood pens, letter-openers, key chains, etc. are finished with three coats of friction polish to ensure a superior finished product and the man-made designs are protected with a "plastic" polish.
Please know that I am committed to providing you with a quality product that you and yours will enjoy for many years.
Sincerely,
Frank
